Democratic Representative Eric Swalwell (D-CA) faced a barrage of heckling during a town hall event with his constituents, a video has revealed.
The incident took place in late July, with some individuals in the audience raising their voices to remind him of his previous association with a Chinese Communist Party spy.
Swalwell was addressing the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade and its implications for “government-mandated pregnancies.”
The congressman expressed his stance, saying, “I stand for women and their freedom… and that’s where I believe we will end up on this.”
It was at this juncture that the heckling commenced.
A man’s voice cut through the crowd, demanding, “Where’s Fang Fang?” as others attempted to restore order.
Representative Mark Desaulnier (D-CA) and others attempted to drown out the heckler, shouting, “Please show respect.”
“Allow my colleague to finish, please,” Swalwell intervened at one point.
As reported by The Washington Examiner:
As indicated by a former FBI official from the counterintelligence field, Fang was subjected to FISA surveillance (which targeted multiple politicians in California and beyond, including Swalwell), which allowed the interception and monitoring of her actions and communications.
The FISA warrant was connected to suspicions that Fang was acting as an agent of a foreign government (China).
The FBI did not consider Fang to be a Chinese intelligence officer herself, but rather a willing instrument of the Chinese intelligence apparatus.
Fang had drawn the attention of the CIA, NSA, and the FBI.
Additionally, the FBI suspected that members of Fang’s family were known to Chinese intelligence services.
The FBI also initiated a separate public corruption case linked directly to these matters, with Swalwell being a person of interest in the investigation, according to sources. This included an inquiry into potential illicit foreign contributions from the Chinese government, potential quid pro quo scenarios, and potential bribery (it’s important to note that Swalwell was never formally charged, and the House Ethics Committee concluded its own investigation earlier this year).
Fang was involved in fundraising activities for Swalwell’s re-election campaign in 2014, and FBI agents believed she facilitated a small-scale ($100 to $200 range) unlawful foreign donation to Swalwell.
Reportedly, Fang’s family friend was offered an internship in Swalwell’s Washington, D.C. office, and the FBI suspected this favor was extended to Fang.
Swalwell was subsequently appointed to the House Intelligence Committee by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, leading the FBI’s top leadership (commonly referred to as the FBI’s 7th Floor) to offer Swalwell a defensive briefing in 2015. This effectively brought an end to the dual investigations by the bureau.
