Hillary Clinton, the former presidential candidate and second-place finisher in the 2016 election, expressed on Monday night that she didn’t derive any sense of satisfaction from the recent indictment in Georgia targeting former President Donald Trump.
During an MSNBC interview with Rachel Maddow, Clinton refrained from gloating over the indictment against Trump, who had defeated her to secure the presidency in 2016. Though the two shared a light moment when news of the Georgia indictment emerged.
“My prevailing sentiment is one of deep sadness as we witness a former president facing a multitude of charges that strike at the core of our Democracy’s survival,” Clinton remarked.
Following Clinton’s interview, a Fulton County grand jury released a 13-count indictment against Trump. The indictment encompassed a total of 41 counts and 98 pages, naming seventeen additional individuals.
“When one reflects upon the publicly available evidence, it becomes evident that he deliberately aimed to defraud the United States and its citizens,” Clinton asserted. “He employed tactics of intimidation, harassment, and even threats. Trump and his allies targeted state and local officials responsible for election management.”
“And astonishingly, we now know that he ventured into voting machine systems, seemingly to ascertain if they had been compromised, when it was they who had breached those systems,” she added.
Clinton lauded the comprehensive investigation led by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, stating that it was conducted with meticulousness.
“But I’m not sure anyone can truly find contentment in this situation,” Clinton continued. “This is an unfortunate juncture for our nation, seeing a former president accused of such grave offenses.”
She elaborated, “The only potential silver lining may be the affirmation that our system is functioning. All the attempts by Donald Trump, his allies, and supporters to suppress the truth and undermine Democracy have been brought to light, and the pursuit of justice is underway.”
