A supervising detective involved in Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s case against former President Donald Trump has been suspended due to undisclosed connections with Michael Cohen.
Cohen, who previously served as Trump’s attorney but later turned against him, has been known to make any statements or take any actions necessary to secure personal benefits, including reducing his own prison sentence.
Upon the exposure of Jeremy Rosenberg’s relationship with Cohen, an investigator specializing in financial crimes working for Bragg, he was suspended, as reported by the New York Post.
Regarding the matter, a spokeswoman for Bragg stated, “The office is currently reviewing the investigator’s adherence to internal protocols.”
Lanny J. Davis, Cohen’s attorney, commented, “The interactions between Mr. Rosenberg, Michael Cohen, and myself were always conducted in a professional manner and focused on Mr. Cohen’s personal security, which we greatly appreciated.”
In March, DA Bragg brought forth 34 felony charges against Trump, primarily related to payments made to Stormy Daniels.
Former Manhattan prosecutor Mark Bederow pointed out, “While it may not directly impact the case, defense counsel would certainly want to understand the nature of their relationship. They would want to know the content of their conversations and whether this detective investigator possessed any information that should be disclosed to the defense.”
Renowned legal scholar Alan Dershowitz criticized the case against Trump, stating, “No one should ever face arrest based on fabricated laws or the combination of federal and state statutes. During my 50 years of teaching criminal law at Harvard, the cardinal rule was that prosecutors were not permitted to engage in creativity. The law must be clear. This prosecution lacks righteousness and justice, and I believe that libertarians of all political affiliations should oppose it.”
Upon learning that Bragg’s case relied on testimony from Cohen, opponents of Trump were deeply disappointed. Former National Security Advisor John Bolton, a prominent anti-Trump figure, expressed concern that this revelation indicated a weak foundation for the case against Trump.
“As someone who is vehemently opposed to Donald Trump receiving the Republican presidential nomination, I am profoundly disturbed by this document,” Bolton commented. “In my opinion, it is even weaker than I had anticipated.”
