Republican Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) appeared on ABC’s “The View” to address recent comments made by the show’s co-hosts. As previously reported, the hosts criticized Scott when he announced his GOP 2024 bid, with Joy Behar accusing him of not understanding black people.
Nicholas Fondacaro, the associate editor for the MRC, described the interaction as “Tim Scott CONFRONTS The View for the racist and dangerous rhetoric they spew.” He explained what transpired during Scott’s appearance on the show.
During the discussion, Scott expressed his perspective: “Progress in America is palpable. It can be measured in generations. So, what I’m suggesting is that yesterday’s exception is today’s rule,” addressing co-host Sunny Hostin directly. He emphasized that the challenges of the past should not be viewed as the challenges of the present.
Whoopi Goldberg responded by falsely claiming that Republicans want to impede progress on race relations. She asked Scott, “How can you get your party to stop trying to stop the progression that people are making?” Scott countered by explaining that it is a matter of the heart and not limited to Republicans or Democrats.
Ana Navarro then suggested that the U.S. is racist because there are only three black senators at present. However, Scott highlighted the progress made, stating that in the past decade, about half of all African Americans who have ever served in the Senate did so. He emphasized that the nation is making measurable progress in real time.
The co-hosts attempted to argue that Trump’s cautious descent down a ramp was more significant than Biden’s public stumbles. Navarro questioned why the focus was on Biden’s age rather than Trump’s. Hostin claimed that Trump struggled to walk down a ramp and hold a glass of water.
