House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) has accused the FBI of non-compliance with a subpoena and intends to take action against bureau chief Christopher Wray for contempt of Congress.
Comer addressed reporters following his examination of an FBI FD-1023 form, which contains allegations of bribery against Joe Biden from a “highly credible source.”
Comer stated, “Today, FBI officials confirmed that the unclassified record, generated by the FBI, remains unchallenged and is currently being utilized in an ongoing investigation. The confidential human source who disclosed information about former Vice President Biden’s involvement in a criminal bribery scheme is a trusted and highly credible informant who has cooperated with the FBI for many years.
“These are factual details, and no amount of White House spin or falsehoods from Congressional Democrats can alter this information. During the briefing, the FBI once again refused to provide the unclassified record to the House Oversight Committee, and as a result, we will initiate contempt of Congress proceedings.
“Considering the gravity and complexity of the allegations contained within this record, it is imperative for Congress to conduct further investigations. The American people have lost confidence in the FBI’s ability to impartially enforce the law, and they demand answers, transparency, and accountability.
“The Oversight Committee is committed to following the facts on behalf of the American people and ensuring that the federal government is held responsible. This is just the beginning, as the investigation is far from over.”
CNN reporter Manu Raju also spoke with Speaker McCarthy about the document.
“Speaker McCarthy informed me that the full House will vote on holding FBI Director Chris Wray in contempt once the House Oversight Committee approves the resolution. It is crucial that every member of the committee has the right to access the documents, rather than limited to just the chair and ranking member.
“If Director Wray denies access to the documents for all committee members, we have jurisdiction, and we will not select only a few individuals to have access. We will pursue contempt,” McCarthy stated.
According to reports, the FBI is concerned that releasing the Biden document to Congress could potentially jeopardize human sources.
