Renowned ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith is urging Democrats to consider fielding a stronger candidate than President Joe Biden for the upcoming 2024 election. Smith expressed his personal opinion, stating:
“I want to make it clear that this is solely my personal opinion. Take it as you will. Someone has to say it, so I will. We need a fresh face as president in 2024. We need a new leader.
“Now, let me be perfectly clear about what I’m saying. People trip and fall all the time—it’s not a major issue. I’ve stumbled and taken a tumble on numerous occasions, even while running up the stairs. It happens.
“It’s not the end of the world.
“It’s not proof that he lacks mental capacity.
“But let’s remember, he is 80 years old. By the end of his term, he’ll be nearing 82.
“Without resorting to ageism, which I firmly oppose, there comes a point where certain roles may not be necessary for someone in their 80s.
“I don’t mean to suggest they shouldn’t be working, enjoying life, or leading a vibrant lifestyle or anything like that.
“But there are responsibilities that extend far beyond a typical 9-to-5 job that individuals in their 80s may not need to shoulder.
“I believe the presidency is one of those responsibilities.
“However, let’s set Biden aside for a moment, as this is in no way a disrespect toward him.
“What does it say about our country when we’re relying on an 80-year-old—who would be 82 if re-elected in 2024—to lead us?
“What does it say about our country if that’s our best option?
“To the Democrats, don’t you have anyone else? No one?”
“Michelle Obama. She would win by a landslide.
“In my opinion, Bob Iger is the greatest I’ve ever seen.
“But I know he’ll never run; he’s focused on running Disney and enjoying his life.
“I simply don’t believe someone in their 80s should be at the helm of our nation,” he concluded.
Smith emphasized that he voted for Biden and clarified that he is not advocating for Joe’s removal from office. Rather, he is urging the Democratic Party to identify a stronger candidate for the 2024 election.
I’ll say it…and I know this will make some people mad…but I just think someone 80+ years old is too old to be President.
